Service and Education

*I know I haven’t posted in near forever, been a little busy, I may get back to it, but hard to say*

Feel that pang that you don’t do enough to support education?

Jason, by way of Tim alerted me of an opportunity to contribute to a project aimed at empowering teachers called Donors Choose. Taken from the Donor’s Choose project description:

At DonorsChoose.org, any public school teacher can become a social entrepreneur, and you can become a philanthropist.

The way it works is simple. Teachers submit ideas for experiences and materials that their students need to learn, such as:

  • Improving vocabulary with a class set of dictionaries ($150)
  • Discouraging teen pregnancy with ‘Baby-Think-It-Over’ dolls ($500)
  • Taking students to Washington, D.C. to see the Supreme Court consider a case ($2,000)

Then you get to choose which project to fund.

American Express is considering gifting them 1 Million dollars, if there is enough interest. If you have a moment, and agree it’s a worthy project, go VOTE. Want to read more, check out an interview with the founder on Tim’s Blog.
